    “Fine for1 or 2 nights,”

Hotel decor is very tired and dated, in places shabby and there was an unpleasant odour (like wet dog) in the hall, so first impression was disappointing, but improved from then on. The double room was small but adequate for a couple of nights, nice furniture and had a very comfortable ensuite with bath and shower. The twin room (same price!) was cramped, had no wardrobe, only 3 small shelves and a rail in an alcove with no door, and since there was a chair in there as well - nowhere else to put it - would take nothing longer than a jacket and no clothes at all if you wanted to sit down. That ensuite was tiny, a shower cabinet badly tiled with stained grout and suspect sealant. Window inaccessible unless you climbed over one of the beds and took forever for the hot water to reach the taps. On the plus side, the beds were very comfortable in both rooms and the towels and linen spotless. The room was clean too, just really time-warped and fussy. Breakfast was fine - good selection of the usual choices, plenty of it, very well cooked and pleasantly served. Bar prices average, but only 2 chairs... Staff were pleasant and efficient. Location is excellent -15/20 minutes walk to the Minster, far enough away to be quiet, near enough to everything to walk easily. The important things in the hotel are absolutely OK, but it is much overpriced for the total experience - especially that twin room!- avoid it!. i would stay there again if there was nowhere else, but it certainly wouldn't be near the top of my list.
