We decided on this hotel as there were lots of good reviews on trip advisor. On arrival we were very happy with the staff on reception and the views around the hotel.

The room (37) was clean and comfortable. We decided to venture down to the huntsmans lodge for some tea and cake. The waitress was very friendly and quickly found us a table and offered us drinks and have us a menu to see what food we would like, on return with our drinks the waiter left the drinks and walked off without taking our food order, by the time we got the attention of one of the waitresses we had finished our pots of tea and coffee. The waitress appogised and took our food order. The same waiter then brought the cakes over, chocolate fudge cake and a scone with butter, jam and clotted cream saying he would return with a spoon for the chocolate cake. He don't return with the spoon so we again had to attract the attention of the waitress to ask for a spoon and also the clotted cream an jam was missing from the scone which she promptly sorted for us.

The evening dinner, was very good service, the starter and desert was lovely but the main course, (pork belly), had far too much fat, it resembled puff pastry there was so much! It made me feel sick chewing it and spoilt the meal. I don't know if this is because the restaurant was busy due to it being valentines day and also there was a birthday party as the reviews all praised the food. It certainly wasn't the 'fine dining' experience I was expecting.

On return to the room later in the evening we notice that the pillow cases and quilt cover stitching was coming apart. To sum up my email I was very disappointed with my stay at the conniston hotel, we looked forward to the weekend for weeks as we have recently had a newborn baby and it was the first night together in months. In total I paid £245 for my stay with you and in the current economic climate I would have expected far better service than we received
