“Great welcome, friendly & helpful staff but .....”

Very nice hotel with plenty of character. The staff was, without exception extremely helpful and friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
it was unfortunate that there was no evening restaurant (in the true sense of a restaurant), in the evening as this would have greatly enhanced our stay.
We had the Boswell Room which was a delight with its lounge are and we soon became accustomed to the quirky lighting system once we discovered which switches worked which lights!
The bathroom is OK but lacked any space to put ones own wash bags etc. and the extractor fan was noisy, to the extent we did not dare switch the light on at night because of the extractors lengthy 'over run' so we used a torch instead.
We had some doubts about the use of a vacuum cleaner in the room on a regular basis as there was evidence that this was not a frequent item of housekeeping.
Having said this we enjoyed our time at Netherstowe House and would certainly stay there again and recommend it to our friends and family.
The above comments are made to inform rather than criticise the hotel but we must never the less come back to one of the most important issues which is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
Oh! I must also mention the excellent breakfasts!!!
All in all an enjoyable stay.
