“Pretty good but has been better in the past”

The room was good. Bed v. comfortable, lighting excellent (some rooms we've stayed in, make it a struggle to read, let alone find that elusive dropped earring!), good plumbing too. But, the noise from the Angel Hill does penetrate so double glazing would help a lot. (presumably this is a listed building constraint?). I believe that in the past you used to provide a glass and small mineral water, which would have been appreciated.

Restaurant, was good though not as good as in the past. Great first courses and wonderful calves liver on our first night, but on the second night much less exciting with the pork being quite tough and the lamb though beautifully cooked being tough and tasteless. The drink in bar beforehand awful. Beer had a slight tang to it as though the pipes had not been cleaned out properly. Gin and tonic which used to be a real treat at the Angel with lime and cucumber, now very ordinary and served in a glass that looks as though it came from the works canteen, served by a dullard bordering on the surly.

    So, overall, just slightly disappointing.
