Spoilt for Choice

You've searched for the dates and place you want to visit but how do you choose from the many attractive properties with availability? The national grading system awards stars to indicate the overall quality of the experience. You can use the 'Order by' option to show the accommodation with the most stars first.

There are also national gradings for welcoming walkers, cyclists, families and pets. Special gold, silver and rose awards are given to reflect exceptional quality. Accessibilty gradings allow you to choose accommodation which meets particular mobility, visual or hearing needs.

In addition to the national schemes, there are a range of other awards covering everything from green tourism to a great British breakfast. Clicking on the symbols for each property will show what each award means.

We hope you have a great trip!

QUOTES: "Congratulations, fantastic, well done Ian, etc" Raymond Blanc.

"I was so determined to stay here that on 5 occasions I even tried to get a room on a Sunday night - you were always full so I had to make a day appointment". The VisitBritain Inspector.

A breakfast restaurant for residents.
Private off road parking, 5 minutes walk to York Minster, a free PC/broadband/printer/web cam and a 36" Sky TV, free wine glasses and corkscrew. Bootham Gardens is the realisation of our dream, a purpose built hotel guesthouse where we can combine our passions for meeting people, preparing & cooking the finest foods & gardening - all in the city we love. VisitBritain state we have been over 90% full for the last 2 years (York’s. average was 37%) and 20% are repeat visitors. We and our guests love the fact that we live on site but they are not staying in our house. Nobody has ever smoked inside Bootham Gardens.

The building's design and décor incorporates 'less is more' and 'function over form'. We are not for you if you are seeking chintz, tartan bedspreads, scatter cushions, personal paintings, plastic flowers, flock wallpaper, paper doilies or anything else that collects dust. We built round a very large comfortably furnished lounge so guests may relax during the day or before going out for dinner without being confined to their bedroom.

We were awarded the 'The Delicious Yorkshire Breakfast' award in recognition of our high quality breakfast. Start the day with a full English or one of 15 specialty breakfasts from Raymond Blanc, Gary Rhodes, Rick Stein, Andy Worrall-Thompson, Nigella Lawson's or Jamie Oliver. We make 16 different marmalades/jellies, mostly from our garden fruit. Leave your car in our own car park, stroll into the city & return to laze in one of our 3 private gardens sipping a wine you supplied & we chilled or drinking more free tea/ coffee in your lounge. You will find in the garden an Elizabethan well; flowering New Zealand Cabbage Palms, dessert grapes, passion fruit, kiwi fruit, figs; a pond full of fish. If you are lucky you may see the hedgehogs.

Four of the six ensuite bedrooms are on the ground floor. Our beds are handmade super king doubles or three foot singles. Ensuite bathrooms are purpose built (not a tiny cubicle in the bedroom corner) - hot water is guaranteed. Rooms are sound proofed for your privacy and are insulated to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. Bedrooms have; electric heating that you control, hair - driers, large mirrors, desks, chairs, wardrobe, beverage-making facilities, tissues, dry towels, radio clock, 22” LCD TV with Freeview, DVD, CD players, free Wi-Fi. We normally only accept children from 5 y. o. with responsible parents. Children welcome from age 5. We are unable to accept pets, hen/ stag nights but we do welcome mature same sex groups.
