    “fantastic”

Craig and Matthew were friendly, helpful and took a great deal of pride in their business. The accommodation was comfortable, spotless, decorated to a high and tasteful standard and they took in to account the small touches that make the stay more enjoyable for example high quality toiletries, brownies left in the room on day two. The food was lovely and there was plenty of choice. I have met two lovely guys who made me and my husband feel so welcome. For me they have "got it right" just carry on doing what you do and you can't go wrong. I would always stay at Dillons when visiting this coast and would recommend this b&b to others.

The only criticism was about the discover yorkshire web site. It was poor and in the future I would book direct with Dillons to avoid any disappointment. This however has no reflection on my views of my stay at Dillons.

    Notes

    • Access Statement Introduction Dillons of Whitby is located on a major road within Whitby and has five guest rooms. The house was built in 1895 and whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features that may make access difficult for people with limited mobility. Our guest rooms are located over two floors accessed only via two flights of stairs. Two guest rooms are at first floor level and have an en-suite shower and bathrooms. On the second floor there are three guest rooms again ensiute, the ceilings are sloping in some rooms due to the eaves. As all, our guest rooms are on the first and second floors - they are not suitable for wheelchair users. Pre-Arrival We are located on a major road just 5 minutes walk from Whitby town centre and 10 minutes from the West Cliff Beach area, you will encounter hills in both directions. Access to the beach is via a zigzag cliff path, steps and a cliff lift during high season. Our location is central and we are well positioned for those wishing to use the beach and explore the town area, although as with many areas in Whitby roads and paths are hilly. The nearest shops, pubs and cafés are within easy, but not level, walking distance in the direction of Flowergate and Baxtergate. The nearest bus stops are on Chubb Hill Road and the small bus station is around 5 minutes walk. From here buses run to Scarborough, Middlesborough and the surrounding area, we also have copies of the local timetables for guest use. The nearest railway station is around 5 minutes walk from Dillons. There are limited services from this station along the Esk Valley to Middlesborough and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway also runs from here. There are several local taxi companies and taxis can usually be found around the harbourside, approximately 5 minutes walk from Dillons. We also hold taxi details on file. Dillons is pleased to welcome pets in two of our guest bedrooms by prior arrangement. Assistance dogs are welcome by prior arrangement. Menus and guest information can be provided in large print if required. We regret we do not have facilities to prepare documents in Braille. Arrival and Car Parking We are a small Guest House and do not have a 24 hour reception service, for that reason our arrival times are from 3pm and we ask that you make advance arrangements with us for arrivals after 7.00pm. Earlier arrival may, however, be possible by arrangement. On the day of departure rooms must be vacated by 10.30am. There is off road parking for 3 cars on a sloping drive in front of the main house. We also have secure space for motorbikes to the side of the property. Guests park on our drive entirely at their own risk. In addition there is unrestricted parking on the surrounding roads. We can offer assistance with luggage if required. Main Entrance There is a sloping drive and five steps up to the front door. The front door is usually closed therefore please ring the bell on your arrival. Guest Accommodation – Public Areas In the lobby there is a tiled floor and in the hallway there are original wooden boards to the floor leading to the main stairs to the first and second floors. Leading off the hallway is the guest sitting and dining room. There is a staircase rising to the first floor, with an original wooden banister on one side. A further staircase leads to the second floor, again with a handrail on one side. All the stairs are carpeted. We have 2 guest bedrooms on the first floor and three further guest bedrooms on the second floor. (Please see section “Bedrooms” for more information). The house is centrally heated throughout but temperatures can be adjusted in each room to suit individual requirements via thermostatic radiators. Sitting and Dining Room Guests are welcome to use the sitting room at any time although it is looked after around 11.00pm for fire safety reasons. The sitting room has one sofa and two easy chairs. This room has a selection of books, magazines and dvds for guest use. A selection of local information and maps is also available. The sitting room has original wooden floorboards, a rug and is centrally heated. Breakfast is served in the dining room between 8.15am and 9am each morning, with all food being cooked fresh. The dining room has an original wooden boarded floor. Bedrooms All bedrooms are carpeted throughout with the exception of Toulouse which has wooden floorboards and a large rug. All are individually decorated and furnished and have white porcelain and travertine en-suite bathroom facilities. On the 1st floor we have one double and one kingsize room. The kingsize room has a full bathroom suite with bath and stand alone shower cubicle and the double room has a full shower room. On the 2nd floor we have 2 kingsize and one double rooms which are of a good size with plenty of character provided by the eaves and sloping ceilings. All of the bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms. All rooms have lcd flatscreen tvs, tea and coffee making facilities, towels, and complementary toiletries and a hairdryer. Our beds are normally made with goose feather and down duvets and pillows, with spare blankets and bedspreads for use during winter. A synthetic duvet and pillows can be provided on request. There is a wardrobe with drawers and bedside cabinets in each room; all rooms have mirrors and bedside lights. All our bedrooms provide additional seating with the exception of Masi, where space is limited. There is a guest information folder in each bedroom which contains a variety of further information. Additional details about Dillons, the area and suggestions on where to eat are some of the topics covered. There are details on emergency contacts including the local hospitals and doctors. Garden The garden is not available to guests with the excepton of a small patio area directly beyond the sitting room in summer months. A table and chairs is provided in this area, it should be noted that the paving to this area has a rustic, uneven finish. There is secure storage in the garden that guests may use, with prior agreement to store surfboards, wetsuits, bicycles, and outdoor walking boots. Additional Information There is a fire extinguisher in the entrance hall and on the first floor landing. In the event of a fire you will hear the fire alarm (a voice alarm to second floor rooms). In case of impaired hearing please hang the red sign found on the back of the bedroom door on the door handle. Exit the building following the fire exit signs (via the main staircase and hallway) to the parking area in front of the building. We do not permit smoking in the house. Should you wish to smoke please do so outside beyond the boundary of Dillons. We are happy to cater for special diets where possible. Please advise us of these before your arrival. Mobile phone reception can be limited dependant on the network you use, Vodafone and Orange seem to have the best coverage in and around Whitby.
