Catering for up to 20 guests within 9 en-suite bedrooms, the Duke of York offers a relaxed and comfortable 'home from home' atmosphere.
Our 6 front bedrooms, two of which offer spacious balconies, all boast stunning panoramic sea views across the quaint harbour and beautiful South Bay seafront.
All bedrooms offer full en-suite facilities, with either a bath or shower, flat screen colour TV's with free-view, a well-stocked refreshment tray, complimentary bottled water, hairdryer and binoculars (in all sea-view rooms). All rooms have been recently refurbished and many now offer comfy seating areas, to help you relax and make the most out of the beautiful views.
Our spacious dining room also offers full bay and harbour views, so you can enjoy your delicious breakfasts whilst watching the fishing boats sail by.
Our hearty breakfasts include a starter of a choice of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts, warm breads and cheeses and a selection of fruit juices, followed by a delicious freshly prepared home cooked full English breakfast. Any special diets or special requests can also be catered for with advanced notice. We understand breakfast is the most important meal of the day and so make it our aim to fill you up until lunch!
Boasting some of the best sea and harbour views in Scarborough, the Duke of York is possibly one of the most conveniently located guest houses in town, overlooking the South Bay seafront. We are literally a few steps away from the beach and just a 5 minute walk into the heart of the town.
Located on one of the oldest roads in Scarborough, Merchant's Row, this tiny cobbled street is steeped in history and has in fact been the location of various films throughout the last 30 years. These films include 'Choras of Dissaproval' staring Anthony Hopkins, Jeremy Irons and Prunella Scales as well as 'Dancing Queen', with Rick Mayall and Helena Bonnam Carter. More recently it was also used in the hit TV drama 'Brides in The bath' with Martin Kemp.
Many of the town's attractions including the Sea Life Centre, Peasholm Park, Miniature Railway and Playzone Adventure Centre are all within walking distance of the guest house, or just a few minutes bus ride away. A selection of literature is available both in the bedrooms and in the entrance of the guest house for your convenience.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Duke of York Guest House. Most of our guests are repeat visitors, some of which have been staying with us for 10, 15, 20 and some for almost 30 years. Visit us once and we hope you become a guest and friend for life.
Children welcome from any age.

Directions to us from the A64:
As you approach Scarborough on the A64, you will come across the usual superstores such as B&Q/Topps Tiles and Dunelm Mill etc.....
Pass all of these superstores and follow the main road through a set of traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing.
You will then see ahead of you a junction, stay in the right hand lane.
Turn right at the lights, heading down a small hill and you will approach a mini roundabout.
At the mini roundabout, take the right hand lane heading under the bridge and follow the road to the next mini roundabout.
At this mini roundabout, turn left and follow the road (Valley Road) all the way under the big green iron bridge until you see a large roundabout ahead.
At this roundabout head straight on and you will approach another roundabout.
At this roundabout turn left and you will find yourself heading along the beach with the sea on your right.
Follow this road to the lights and turn left up the hill (Eastborough).
As you head up the hill you will see a fork in the road on your left with 'Leeds Fisheries' on the corner. Take the left hand back road (this should be cobbled) and we will appear on your left. Our car park in on the right.
Directions to us from the A165:
Follow all signs into Scarborough.
As you come off the bypass on the A165, you should pass the University of Hull (Scarborough Campus), followed by Scarborough Sports Centre.
You will then approach a set of traffic lights, go straight ahead.
At the next set of lights, go straight through, passing a mini Sainsbury’s and various shops/cafes etc on both sides of the road.
Pass through the pedestrian crossing and as you approach the next set of lights, stick to the right hand lane (not crossing over the bridge).
Turn right down the hill and approach the roundabout and turn right.
At the next immediate roundabout, go straight over and the sea should appear on your right.
Follow the beach along past all of the amusement arcades, and at the end of the beach you will reach some more traffic lights, turn left up the hill (Eastborough)
As you follow up the hill, the Duke of York is on your 1st/2nd turning on the left. The 2nd turning is best, as the road is very narrow.
Our car park will appear on your left, our front doors should be right in front of you.
Directions to us from the A171:
As you approach Peasholm Park roundabout, take your 2nd exit and an immediate left turn up a sharp hill onto Peasholm Road.
Follow the hill to the top, and the road continues for a good few minutes (North Marine Road).
At the end of the road you will come to a mini junction, (the fire station should be on your left), turn left here onto Castle Road.
Take your first right onto Queen Street and follow to the bottom.
Turn left onto Eastborough, we are the 2nd turning on the right. Car park is to the left as you come down the cobbled street.
