Details

Basin Howe Farm is situated in an elevated position on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, yet within easy reach of the popular seaside resort of Scarborough.

Two newly renovated barns around a parterre and large pond provide four holiday cottages of a superior standard. We are on the edge of Troutsdale and near Dalby Forest and are surrounded by farmland with a splendid outlook over the Wolds. Each barn has been individually styled to retain character features such as exposed stonework, wooden beams and oak flooring.

We are pleased to announce that we can now offer Wi-Fi in all four cottages.

Amber Cottage

Amber Cottage has a real wow factor with double height lounge, huge windows, oak beams and oak flooring. An open plan staircase leads through an archway into a mezzanine floor.

Amber Cottage has wheelchair access through double width doors with a low threshold and a gently sloping path from the car park. All of the ground floor is level thus providing easy disabled access which has been assessed by Quality in Tourism as being suitable for people who may need to use a wheelchair some of the time.

The kitchen is well equipped for a self catering holiday and is easily accessed from the open plan lounge.

This cottage sleeps four - there is one large ground floor bedroom and one twin room on the mezzanine. It has a stylish wet room with disabled access and a state of the art thermostatic shower.

Topaz Cottage

Topaz Cottage is architecturally stunning with a wealth of period features – stone walls, arched windows and wooden beams. There are two generous en-suite bedrooms to sleep four. The kitchen is very bright and light and well equipped for a self catering holiday. One well behaved dog also welcome.

This cottage can be linked with Amber Cottage to sleep eight.

For people with mobility difficulties; all of the ground floor is level and there is a ground floor bedroom but there is a step up into the shower cubicle and no handrail can be fitted.

Amber and Topaz share a large patio area which catches the evening sun.

Jade Cottage

Jade Cottage features a huge lounge with large windows and solid oak flooring. The generous kitchen is well equipped for a self catering holiday. Guests may choose to dine in either the kitchen or the lounge – both have oak dining tables and padded chairs. One well behaved dog is also welcome.

There are two en-suite bedrooms on the first floor to sleep four. One bedroom has a feature window looking out towards the Bronze Age burial mound and a king size wrought iron bed. The other bedroom has twin metal beds.

Patio tables and chairs are provided in front of the farmhouse looking out across the parterre to the Wolds beyond.

Opal Cottage

Opal Cottage is absolutely superb. The lounge is double height with double aspect cartshed windows, log burning stove and brick and stone feature walls. The bright and spacious kitchen/diner is in a garden room to die for with views of the garden on three sides. It has everything you need for a self catering holiday plus direct access to a decking area over the pond – perfect for morning coffee, al fresco dining or those pre dinner drinks.

Two good sized bedrooms, both are en-suite – one on the ground floor with a huge super king zip’n’link bed which can be used as full sized twin beds, the second bedroom is accessed via its own staircase with a king size wrought iron bed, exposed wood beams, a feature stone wall and en suite shower room.

The location is ideal for guests who enjoy outdoor activities including star gazing and bird watching. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy miles of trails to explore the National Park. We are close to many local attractions such as Dalby Forest, Flamingo Land and Castle Howard plus the stunning North Yorkshire Heritage Coastline. The North Yorks Steam Railway starts from Pickering only 12 miles away and meanders through Heartbeat country into the Moors. Guests have access to two acres of gardens with seating areas. There is secure storage for bicycles. We now have Wi-Fi too. Sawdon is the nearest village with The Anvil pub and excellent restaurant and there is also a nine hole golf course.

Basin Howe Farm takes its name from our very own Bronze Age burial mound. This is a truly unique selection of cottages offering you a chance to get away from the traffic hum and listen to the birds in scenic surroundings.

    Notes

    • There are four cottages at Basin Howe Farm which is a remote location. Amber Cottage is the most suitable for guests with mobility or walking difficulties. Guests can be dropped at the end of a gently sloping paved path. There is a double width doorway with low threshold. Ground floor areas are all level. Oak flooring in spacious barn living/dining area Large ground floor double bedroom with Super King zip n link beds and access to generous wet room Wet room equipped with grab rails and shower stool and plenty of room for a carer. Second bedroom is on the 1st Floor mezzanine. Level access to patio area which is a mix of paving and gravel. Motion detectors fitted to outside lighting - not dawn to dusk The car parking area is generous and close to the cottage but it is loose stone, not tarmac. Other paths around the farm and garden are gravel or grass. Mobile phone reception is erratic especially inside the stone barns. Walls are very thick. Due to remote location it is a good idea to shop for provisions before arrival. Full Access Statement available on request
