Details

Argyll Cottage enjoys a peaceful location in the quiet and charming village of Lockton. Guests can look forward to a sound night's sleep in comfortable, homely surroundings followed by a freshly-cooked and hearty English breakfast with home-made bread and Lockton-laid free-range eggs. Lighter alternatives are available and vegetarians can be sure they'll not miss out on a delicious and satisfying start to the day.

We have two first-floor guest rooms - one twin bedded and one double - both with views across to the Hole of Horcum, a notable feature of the North Yorkshire Moors. The garden overlooks the pretty valley between Lockton and Levisham and guests are invited to take in the view from our little summerhouse.

This is an area renowned for its excellent walking and Argyll Cottage is surrounded by North Yorkshire's finest landscapes - your walks begin at the door of the cottage!

Lockton is just 6 miles from the popular market town of Pickering, home of the famous steam railway, and a similar distance from picturesque Thornton-le-Dale. The steam railway can also be found at Levisham, the country station being only a couple of miles from Argyll Cottage. The main access to Dalby Forest is a mere 3 miles away - great for cyclists - while Whitby is 12 miles with coastline to the north and south among the most scenic in England. We are also within easy reach of York, Castle Howard and Scarborough.

You will be welcome to tea and cake on arrival, or, if your visit is in the cooler months you may prefer a bowl of my home-made soup. Packed lunches are available by prior arrangement.

    “Excellent”

Everything was lovely. The host was very kind and helpful. She provided us all with tea and cakes on arrival and with a delicious vegetarian breakfast on discovering we were vegetarian. Whether the location is perfect is a personal thing. It depends on what you want. It is in a very pretty little village. The location was good for us and suited our trip but it is in a rural location in a quiet little village, that was the only reason for 4 stars rather than 5.
