“Friendly, Cheaper & cheerful, excellent location”
Booked as a relatively last minute place to stay. Were lucky to get a cheaper price than that advertised due to an error on the Visit Oxford website being upheld.
Excellent location, nice views, only 15min pleasant walk to the city centre.
Cute attic room with sloping ceiling. Perfectly sufficient space in the room, though low ceiling over half the bed may trouble some people.
Nice, new looking fitted wardrobe, dressing table with drawers & bedside shelves. Bathroom with decent sized shower (good flow, temperature & EASY controls, even when not wearing my glasses!).
Bed perfectly comfortable, though pillows are a bit flat (bit old), but at least there were two, unlike some places we have stayed.
Space to put out make up, big enough mirror to put it on. Could do with two hooks for bath towels on door & one for the hand towel, though to be fair there was a rail above the loo (so just slightly inconvenient).
Space to put things in the bathroom.
All clean, tidy & clear surfaces, with a couple of exceptions: shower toiletry shelf had a significant soap build up (can't imagine that it was just from one set of previous guests) & bedside lights dusty.
Bedside lightshades were not fitted properly in their holders, bathroom sink shelf nearly fell off whilst wiping off toothpaste smear (not sure how a cleaner would not have noticed it is loose), main door handles v loose.
Hairdryer available from reception ( slightly wierd arrangement- we nearly forgot to ask before the morning, but I presume they have had some stolen or something, so fair enough!).
Breakfast perfectly nice, sufficient selection. Cooked breakfast served speedily.
General decor slightly dated, but not grubbily so at all. Gave a characterful feeling & is preferable to somewhere overly done up, with the inevitable price increase.
Slightly confusing stairways & doors (one says private at the top, but not at the bottom, & door with no push plate). Were no lights on in corridoors/ stairways which may give some guests difficulties.
All staff very friendly, helpful advice about buses, local eateries, parking etc. Free parking in guest house car park whilst staying there.
Pleased to note the green policy of allowing guests to chose if they require fresh towels or not.
