Situated on a 200-acre estate, in a beautiful location and surrounded by fields and woodland, Shaw End Mansions 4 stylish and spacious Georgian apartments with open fireplaces, provide an excellent holiday base or short break destination, and is a popular venue for family reunions, weddings and corporate accommodation and can be booked as a whole sleeping up to 18 people.

There is fishing on our own river and tarn, horseriding within a mile and miles of open fell and countryside to enjoy. During the Spring guests can enjoy the sight of new born lambs and even help with the feeding.

The two ground floor apartments, No 1 and No 2, each have 2 bedrooms, a double and a twin. The sweeping pine staircase leads to a 3-bedroomed apartment, No 3, which has an extra double room and a 2-bedroomed apartment, No 4. They are all furnished to a high standard and incorporate many period features.

    “Beautiful house in a perfect location”

    We enjoyed a quiet week at the end of summer at Shaw End and had a wonderful and relaxing time there. The house was easy to find, just beyond the town of Kendal but felt remote and tucked away.
    The apartment is large; the house is divided into four spacious apartments; you have the mix of Georgian proportions, with the benefit of a modern kitchen and facilities.
    There is plenty of space for 4 people to share (in the 2 bed flat), whether there are four adults or a family; there is also the option of a crib if needed.
    The views from every window are breathtaking; hills, trees, a babbling brook, sheep and even a railway line in the distance. It was so quiet and still at night.
    My only negative is the en suite (to the master bedroom), firstly it is tiny (essentially a cupboard with the tiniest shower I have ever stood in) and secondly the smell. Even with the door closed, you could still smell the damp and drains. Even after a thorough clean of the shower and the toilet, the smell just lingered. The bed is very close to the shower room so you had that smell present when you drifted off to sleep.
    The apartment was clean throughout; no cobwebs or dust and the windows and mirrors were immaculate. The bedroom furniture was new but the carpets, the sofa, dining table and general decor was shabby and stained.
    The heating and electricity are at an additional cost; I dread to think how much it would be to heat during the winter but I would love to see a fire blazing in the hearth at Christmas.
    I would be tempted to stay at Shaw End in the future. It was an inexpensive week in a beautiful house in a stunning part of the UK.

    Thank you for your comments, we take guests' comments very seriously & always do our best to ensure any problems are dealt with immediately. We always try to impress on our guests that we are available to help at any time & are more than happy to help with anything. Any problems are best reported at the time so that we can examine & deal with them so as not to spoil the enjoyment of the holiday.

    We have examined the first floor or apartment you stayed in & could find no evidence of smells. We were concerned about drainage problems on reading the review, however, could find no problems in that area, with traps to prevent such problems. It is possible smells could have come from condensation on using the shower.

    The shower room is small, yes, but it is functional, with an average sized tray as opposed to a space saving dimension.

    The cost of heating is kept as low as possible, we normally round the readings down & often reduce the heating bills considerable especially during very cold spells when guests have used the heating extensively. According to our records your bill was £9.00 which we feel was very reasonable for a week stay.

    We constantly replace furnishings whenever possible & while some awaiting replacement are rather tired we would not go so far as describing them as shabby. Nor would we say carpets are stained, all spills are immediately cleaned to the best of our ability. Furnishings are certainly not stained.

    We are happy to accept negative reviews & always take any advice to improve our facilities, however we feel that some of your comments were unnecessary strongly worded & inaccurate.
