Details

Halecat is very special family home and is favoured by walkers, cyclists and for family gatherings, weddings and parties.

Designed by Webster and built in the early 1800s for the Stanley family, it is a beautiful Georgian house situated in substantial and stunning gardens at the head of an ancient wooded valley enjoying wonderful views over Arnside and Morecambe Bay. This real rural retreat is generously proportioned making it ideal for family gatherings.

As part of the Witherslack Estate at the southern end of the Lake District it's a very popular area for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts with glorious unspoilt natural mixed woodlands and many Sites of Special Scientific Interest right on the doorstep.

The beech lined driveway leads to the front of the grand house with its limestone porch facade where you will find ample private parking and the entrance to the gardens. The drawing room and dining room and 3 large double bedrooms (2 en suite) and one large single room all overlook the beautiful formal gardens which were meticulously designed by the late Fortune Stanley, who was heavily influenced by the garden of her girlhood at Ardtornish in Argyll.

The house offers a rare opportunity to step back in time having not been fully modernised so retains much of its character and charm. It is comfortable and not fussy and all the rooms look out over the gardens and views beyond. It is fully centrally heated from our district biomass boiler in our wood yard, so bags of hot water and heating. The garden gazebo, a listed building, is especially peaceful; croquet and football are often played on the main lawn - a fascinating and safe place for children to explore.
