Details

Stephen and Claire welcome you to the Ouse Bridge, our homely Edwardian house in the stunning setting of Bassenthwaite Lake and Skiddaw. We are in a peaceful part of the Lake District away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds, offering relaxation, tranquillity and the prefect chance to get away from it all. From the moment you walk through our door, you will be warmly welcomed into our home where you will enjoy first class hospitality, fantastic food and beautiful scenery.

We offer spotless high quality accommodation with little extra touches to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. All rooms have luxurious linen, quality toiletries, fluffy towels, flat screen TVs with DVD players, complimentary chocolates and Wifi access. Half of our rooms have spectacular views of Skiddaw, Ullock Pike and Bassenthwaite Lake whilst the others overlook our garden, where you will see our feeders busy with many species of birds and you may even spot our Great Spotted Woodpeckers.

In the morning wake up to a delicious “Cumbrian” English breakfast freshly cooked to order using high quality local produce. Or if you fancy something lighter try free-range scrambled eggs on toast or a variety of fresh fruits, cereals, juices and thick creamy yoghurt.

In certain months we also offer dinner. Please check before booking. So after a long day spent walking, sightseeing or touring there is no need to have to go out and find somewhere to eat. Instead you can simply come downstairs and relax with a drink and enjoy a beautifully cooked meal. We offer home style food but with style focusing on simple but delicious dishes using the freshest ingredients. For more details on our menu and when we offer dinner please see our website.

We are also fully licensed and offer an Honesty Bar for Guests. So you make yourself at home and enjoy a drink either in our cosy lounge or on barmy summer evenings sit outside and look for the Osprey whilst enjoying the sun setting and glowing red over Skiddaw.

We have ample free private parking for all guests, drying room for those not so dry Lakeland days and can also can provide help and advice on walking and touring the area. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

    “Delightful visit ”

We were greeted by our delightful hostess who earned top marks when she kindly carried both mine and my friend's suitcases up two floors to a top room which looked over the meadow behind the house. A lovely room, nicely decorated and with an en suite bathroom. The only reason I have not given the top mark for service and facilities is because the bath does not have a shower over, only a hand shower attached to the taps, with no shower curtain, but, as we particularly requested a room with a bath, this is not a complaint, just an observation. It is fine for hairwashing though.

The breakfasts were delicious, with locally sourced food, though I never though I would wax lyrical about bacon!! It was wonderful. Replete, we two grandma's put the roof down on the little sport's car and travelled around the Lake District, and, never having been here before, made the most of all the tiny roads up in the hills to explore, eventually returning to the fold to relax at the end of the day. Although we did not take advantage of it, there is residents lounge which has an 'honesty bar' and is very pleasant room with a view across to Bassenthwaite Lake. Several nice pubs are in the area for evening meals. We would stay again, our hosts very welcoming, and the pull of the Lakes will probably bring us here again in future years.
