You've searched for the dates and place you want to visit but how do you choose from the many attractive properties with availability? The national grading system awards stars to indicate the overall quality of the experience. You can use the 'Order by' option to show the accommodation with the most stars first.
There are also national gradings for welcoming walkers, cyclists, families and pets. Special gold, silver and rose awards are given to reflect exceptional quality. Accessibilty gradings allow you to choose accommodation which meets particular mobility, visual or hearing needs.
In addition to the national schemes, there are a range of other awards covering everything from green tourism to a great British breakfast. Clicking on the symbols for each property will show what each award means.
We hope you have a great trip!

Located in Alston, Lowbyer Manor Country House is a touch of luxury in England's Last Wilderness. Built in 1778 and now a Grade II Listed building, Lowbyer Manor Country House is tied into the industrial heritage of Alston, having been built by Greenwich Hospital, London with income from the local lead mines owned by the hospital. Come and relax in our guest lounge with a roaring log fire or enjoy a bottle of local ale in our snug bar. Free parking is available in our courtyard. We are both walker and cyclist friendly offering bike storage and drying facilities. With a Silver award for Green Tourism, we endeavour to reduce our impact on the special environment of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, AONB.
Alston is at the heart of the North Pennines AONB which makes it a natural location for walking and cycling holidays with an increasing selection of routes available. The natural beauty of the North Pennines has inspired many artists with several of them living in and around Alston, especially painters and potters. There are regular exhibitions in the local galleries at Gossipgate and Stokoe House in Alston. The area cannot be beaten for wildlife, birds ranging from the black grouse to the elusive curlew and mammals ranging from the red squirrel to the rare water vole. Also the industrial heritage can be experienced, especially lead mining with heritage centres at Nenthead Mines and Killhope Lead Mining Museum or enjoy a ride on the highest narrow gauge steam train in England at the South Tynedale Railway in Alston.
With Alston being centrally located in the country, Lowbyer Manor Country House is an ideal base to explore Hadrian's Wall, Durham and the Durham Dales, the Lake District, the Scottish Border region and also Newcastle upon Tyne.
